Companion Ministry in Sudan
St. Lawrence participates in the Diocese of Chicago’s companion relationship with the Diocese of Renk, in Sudan. The Diocese of Renk is located on the northern edge of Southern Sudan. This area is often called the ‘gate way’ for returning displaced persons. St. Lawrence’s Companion Parish is St. Bartholomew Parish, in Thiangrial.
St. Bartholomew Parish is a newer church in the Southern Arch-Deanery of Renk Diocese.
The Christian population in Thiangrial is estimated at about 5% of the 15,000 people in the area. The members of St. Bartholomew Parish ‘long for education and health care.’
As a Companion Parish, St. Lawrence joins St. Bartholomew in prayer. We contribute financially to support St. Bartholomew’s ministry in Thiangrial. We hold out the hope of exchange visits in the future. And we continually learn from the people of St. Bartholomew and Renk Diocese.
Please pray for St. Bartholomew Parish and Renk Diocese:
Pray for peace and justice in Thiangrial, the Renk Diocese and Sudan.
Pray for provision of the daily needs of the people of St. Bartholomew Parish and Renk.
Pray for education for the people of Thiangrial and Renk Diocese.
Pray for health care for the village of Thiangrial.
Pray for resources for strategic plans, that will strengthen the church and the community.
Pray for wisdom and courage, for both clergy and laity, to live in peace, dignity and integrity.
